Sustainability is fundamental for the cruise industry to continue to grow and thrive responsibly. When it comes to sustainable development, the B2B network, Cruise Baltic, is worth noticing, having already established various initiatives such as a shore power conference and an increased emphasis on attracting expedition cruise ships to the region off-season.

The Baltic Sea has become one of the global hotspots for the rising cruise industry with hundreds of cruise vessels visiting the ports each year bringing millions of guests. The continuous popularity makes it crucial to continue committing to develop responsible environmental practices. The Cruise Baltic network is resolute on transforming the Baltic Sea region into the most sustainable cruise destination in the world.

An important discussion on OPS in the Baltic Sea region

In Denmark, a 2021-plan called ‘Comeback Copenhagen’ has been developed jointly by the Copenhagen Municipality, the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, and Wonderful Copenhagen since the pandemic changed our world. One of the initiatives focuses on sustainable development of cruise tourism in, not only Copenhagen, but the entire Baltic Sea region. Being strongly devoted to this plan, the Cruise Baltic hosted a conference in Malmö, Sweden under the headline ‘Shore Power for Dummies’ on October 25, 2021. Here, several experts were invited to discuss the benefits and possibilities of shore power with partners of the network and stakeholders of the industry as well as the related political challenges.

Discover the Baltic Sea Region on an expedition cruise off-season

Cruise Baltic is continuously working on attracting cruise lines off-season, too, to spread the tourists throughout the season as much as possible. The Baltic Sea region can be explored all-year-round. In fact, nothing beats the colourful autumn season from September until November, when the air becomes crisp and cool and the leaves change to brilliant colours of red, yellow, and orange. It is magical to experience the winter wonderland from December until February, the season of woollen jumpers, candle lights and magical nature experiences like snow, northern lights, and midnight sun.

With the aim of Cruise Baltic becoming the world’s most sustainable cruise destination, the Baltic Sea Region is the place to get the true nature experience. Look at our video below to discover why the Baltic Sea is the perfect expedition cruise destination all year round!
