World adventurer Karen Lundgren and Theresa Scalzitti, chief sales officer for Florida-based Cruise Planners, served as the respective godmothers

World Traveller was named Saturday, followed by Zodiac sightseeing of Pia Glacier. In the evening the portraits of the godmothers were unveiled at a gala reception. World Navigator’s naming took place Sunday, preceded by a celebratory luncheon on that vessel.

Historic occasion

‘What a historic weekend for Atlas! It was inspiring to name these two spectacular ships surrounded by majestic glaciers,’ Atlas President and CEO James Rodriguez said.

Attendees included travel advisors, Atlas parent company shareholders, media and dignitaries from Argentina and Chile.

World Navigator has been in service since last year but was never formally named due to COVID-19 restrictions. World Traveller was just delivered in October.

Both vessels are beginning a season in Antarctica.

Busy weekend for ship inaugurals

The Atlas festivities took place on the same weekend as Silversea Cruises named Silver Endeavour in Antarctica’s Lemaire Channel and Carnival Cruise Line named Carnival Celebration at PortMiami.

Seabourn Venture‘s naming is imminent.
